Our Services
Cultivating Future Innovators. Bridging the Gender Gap in Engineering.
At the Center for Engineering Education and Gender Studies (CEEGS), we are dedicated to building pathways for girls and women in the field of engineering education. Our programs are designed to inspire curiosity, foster technical competence, and advocate for structural transformation within Ohio communities and the broader U.S. society.
STEM Enrichment & Engineering Workshops
We provide hands-on, experiential learning opportunities designed to spark an early interest in engineering education among young girls.
- Girls in Engineering Camps: Immersive summer and weekend programs where students in middle and high schools and colleges engage in real-world problem solving, robotics, and structural design challenges.
- Community STEM Labs: Mobile workshops that bring engineering resources directly to underserved communities in Ohio, ensuring that economic background does not dictate access to innovation.
- Project-Based Learning: Curricula that emphasize creativity and collaboration, showing students how engineering directly impacts and improves their local communities.
Mentorship & Career Pathways
Representation matters. We connect aspiring female engineers with established professionals to provide the guidance and networks necessary for success.
- Professional Mentoring Networks: Pairing students at the school and college level and early-career women with experienced female engineers for career guidance, resume workshops, and interview preparation.
- Role Model Series: Panels and seminars featuring successful women in various engineering disciplines, aimed at demystifying the industry and providing tangible examples of success.
- University Bridge Programs: Guidance for high school seniors on navigating college applications, scholarship opportunities, and selecting engineering majors.
Educator Support & Curriculum Development
To create a change, we equip educators with the tools to teach engineering through an inclusive lens.
- Gender-Responsive Pedagogy: Training for teachers on how to create classroom environments that encourage girls to participate and lead in STEM subjects.
- Curriculum Consultation: Partnering with schools to integrate engineering concepts into standard science and math classes in a way that is accessible and engaging for all students.
Research
Leveraging our focus on Gender Studies, we work to understand the root causes of the gender gap and advocate for evidence-based solutions.
- Gender Equity Research: Conducting and publishing studies on the barriers women experience in engineering education and/or field and the workforce within the Midwest region and the U.S.
- Policy Advocacy: Collaborating with educational boards and policymakers to promote standards that support funding and resources for girls in STEM.
- Public Awareness Campaigns: Initiatives aimed at changing societal perceptions of who can be an engineer.
